Michael Niemann is a writer and teacher who focuses on the place of ordinary individuals in the world. His work ranges from traditional print media to various electronic formats.
His non-fiction writing focuses on world politics and African issues. He is the author of A Spatial Approach to Regionalisms in the Global Economy. Other writing credits include numerous articles, both academic and non-academic, covering issues as diverse as migration in southern Africa, the AIDS pandemic, human rights and global trade. In the technology area, he has written about cloud productivity applications, PDF file management and writing software.
He developed iPhone app Yoga Sutra in collaboration with Amy Wheeler-Mantoan. It is available on the App Store.
His current nonfiction project is a multimedia iPad app about the global cocoa and chocolate economy.
In fiction, his work falls into the mystery/crime genre. His short story Africa Always Needs Guns was selected for inclusion in the 2012 Mystery Writers of America Anthology Vengeance edited by Lee Child. His book manuscript Lincoln Road is a thriller set among the poor squatters in Durban, South Africa.
